Policies at Cloud Nine Dog Training School
Cloud Nine offers motivational, reward-based training with a heavy emphasis on operant conditioning (clickers are optional). No one may hit, ear pinch, string up, kick, or excessively jerk a dog while on the premises.
- Though payment may be made at the first lesson, paying in advance secures your spot in a class. After filling out the online registration, simply mail a check to Cloud Nine Training School for Dogs, 640 11th Ave South, Hopkins, MN 55343 or call Dawn at 952-939-9174 with your credit card information.
- Refunds are not given after you have attended the first class.
- Entrance to the building is through the door that faces 11th Ave. S.
- Proper footwear in the training ring is a must. Boots, heels and flip flops, for example, are not acceptable. You will be asked to leave dirty, wet, sloppy, slushy, muddy footwear outside the training ring. Towels are available for you to wipe your dog's feet as necessary before entering the training ring.
- Dogs must be current on their wellness vaccinations for their age; bordatella and corona virus vaccinations are NOT required for dogs to attend classes at Cloud Nine. We favor Dr. Jean Dodds' recommended vaccination schedule.
- The following kinds of collars are allowed at Cloud Nine: buckle collars, Gentle Leaders, Haltis and other head collars, Martingale collars. Chain link collars may be used ONLY on advanced dogs who are getting ready for obedience competition. Note: Prong/pinch collars may not be used at Cloud Nine.
- Children are welcome to participate in classes as long as they are well behaved, are mature enough to understand the concepts, are able to pay attention to the instructor, are able to effectively handle the dog, and are accompanied by an adult. Children may not play on the agility equipment.
- Dogs may be walked on the grassy areas around the building (or the snowy areas, depending on the season), however, please do not allow dogs to urinate on the building. And, of course please clean up after your dog. Full poop bags may be placed in the garbage container outside the building near the front door. DO NOT throw away poop or poop-filled bags in any of the dumpsters behind the building. If you elect not to clean up after your dog, you will be excused from classes and no refund will be given.
- There is a small park-like area on the east side of 11th Ave. where you can take your dog to stretch his/her legs before or after class. Clean-up rules apply there as well.
- Off-street parking is available in the lot on the south side of the building, around the back of the building and at the north end of the lot. Parking also is allowed on 7th St. S.
- Dogs must be on leash at all times and you must be holding onto the end of the leash unless you are working on off-leash exercises as directed by an instructor.
- Dogs that are crated/kenneled while classes are taking place must be quiet and non-disruptive.
- Bitches in season must stay home but owners may attend class.
- Course offerings and dates are subject to change.
- Winter in Minnesota sometimes means class cancellations. If severe winter weather hits and classes must be cancelled, you will receive an email before your class was to have taken place, so please check your email before leaving for Cloud Nine. If in doubt, feel free to call or email Dawn to verify the status of class when winter weather advisories are in the forecast.
